Inseparable from the Chelsea hotel – not only in space but in spirit and history – is the Café Central. It was here during the Eighties and Nineties that legendary parties took place under the „artistic direction“ of Martin Kippenberger. Not only visual artists like this café, with its timeless, black and white interior, it has been a center of literary and intellectual discussions from the outset. The outside terrace with palms and bamboo plants brings an almost mediterranean atmosphere which attracts hotel guests and Cologne natives alike in the summer, which in Cologne sometimes starts as early as in February.
