The Chelsea

The Chelsea

The Chelsea hotel calls itself „the hotel different“. What’s so different about the Chelsea? Is there something special which other hotels don’t have?

The Chelsea is not a „design hotel“, even less a „boutique hotel“. Design hotels are by definition „designed“ (by now we have even got „budget design hotels“), the Chelsea has grown by itself; it is authentic.

The Chelsea hotel is often called an artists‘ hotel or an art hotel. But foremost it is a house for guests, where everybody is welcome and where those who esteem a taste for the individual feel comfortable. Nevertheless, it is true, that for more than 30 years the Chelsea has been residence, indeed „home away from home“ for many artists.

Art in the Chelsea

Art in the Chelsea

These artists have left their traces. The works of art which are on display in the rooms are more than just decoration, they are proof of the bond between the artists and the hotel, among them Walter Dahn, Jiri Georg Dokoupil, Martin Kippenberger, Rosemarie Trockel, Albert und Markus Oehlen, Andreas Schulze, Günther Förg, Eva & Adele, Katharina Jahnke, A.R. Penck, Georg Herold, Candida Höfer, Sam Samore, and many others.
